Ray Lovejoy working at a Steenbeck flat-bed editing machine.
Notes I made on 4 May 1980 (during the May Bank Holiday) of the aerial footage for ‘The Shining’ opening title sequence. The large note ‘KEYS’ is a reminder to keep hold of the cutting room keys at all times, after Stanley had locked us out of the cutting room the day before, which necessitated me climbing a drain pipe.
My rough music chart for Reel 15 of ‘The Shining’ that Stanley used for a preliminary run-through in the dubbing theatre. An annotation he made can be seen in his handwriting at 71 feet: ‘to fill hole’.

Three consecutive pages from ‘The Shining’ Editing Notebook, showing 19 alterations Stanley made to the final cut on March 5-6 1980. They show how Gill and I worked in shifts. Notes 1-14 show the changes Stanley made on my shift on the evening of Thurs 5, finishing in early hours of Friday; notes 15-18, in Gill’s handwriting, show the further changes Stanley made during the day on Friday 6; and note 19 I made at the start of my next shift on Friday evening.
Detail from a page of ‘The Shining’ Editing Notebook, showing notes Gill and I made at the time, as Stanley made final alterations to the last two reels.
Once the maze shots had been categorised, Gill stored them on the racks in Stanley’s stable block cutting room’The Shining’ creating this index to show which shelves they were stored on. Note in Gill’s handwriting.
None of the shots of Jack chasing Danny in the winter maze had detailed continuity sheet notes. So I went through it all, categorising the contents. Note dates from March 1980
